Our philosophy is simple 'Eat Well Live Well'. We don't eat to live. We see eating as a culture, a time to socialise and spend time with family and friends.

Here at EAT we try to source local and organic products were ever possible. The team at EAT is headed by Laurent Loudeac in the kitchen (formerly of Hippopotamus) and John David (Cin Cin Cuba) leading the front of house.

With many years experience in the hospitality industry, we wanted to stamp our mark on the Wellington food scene. We have an insatiable passion for great food & drink, delivering friendly, unpretentious service.

Obsessively, we seek the best, most mouth-watering ingredients we can find locally from growers, makers and markets, fusing them together to create innovative flavours and fresh, vibrant, sumptuous dishes; putting our passion for your palate on a plate.

THE CHEF

LAURENT LOUDEAC

Laurent was born in Chateaubriant France. He started his love of cooking firstly at home as a young child, and at the age of 15 started his chef’s apprenticeship in a three-star hotel restaurant called the La Ferriere located in a beautiful quaint manor.

His journey then took him to Switzerland and then onto Australia. In 1995 Laurent moved to New Zealand and settled in the beautiful Pauanui and was sous chef at Puka Park Lodge. Wellington has become home now for the last 15 years being head
chef at the legendary Hummingbird Restaurant and Bar and Award winning Hippopotamus restaurant in the Wellington QT Museum Hotel. Laurent is multi award winning and highly acclaimed not only locally but worldwide.

Laurent became a household name not only for culinary expertise but his immense humour and loveable personality on TVNZ Good Morning show over a seven year period. Laurent describes his philosophy as fresh, balanced, simplistic and
good combinations of flavour. He is now expressing his flare for excellence and taste at our new restaurant “Eat”

JOHN DAVID

Since a young child John was surrounded by delicious cuisine and aromatic scents. Influenced by his Mama’s and 6 Sister’s culinary skills, John developed a passion for food and grew to become the family’s negotiator and produce buyer at local food markets.

His career as a restaurant owner began when he immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand opening his first cafe Oasis. After operating his first successful food and hospitality venture John decided to move to Wellington and open Cubita, a Cuban style cafe that became a buzzing hub spot for creatives, advertising executives and  famous influential faces.

He later collaborated with another local hospitality icon and opened his first dinner and restaurant venture Pizza Napoli, that became a popular Italian food land mark in the Wellington Central hospitality scene.

For John it’s always been about providing an unforgettable experience, quality food  and guest satisfaction – just as it was embraced by his family. John has been perfecting his hospitality skills for 25 years strong, constantly striving towards flavoursome success. His most recent Italian restaurant CinCin has been yet another success on his journey to perfecting and fine tuning  flavoursome food.

Teaming with culinary genius Laurent Loudeac, John now welcome’s you to his latest, tastiest, freshest cuisine and must see vibrant dining experience – EAT.
